Protect your Computer from unknown use of Pendrives

Hi,

Are you worried about the Viruses and other harmful gifts that your friends give when they insert the pen drives in your computer without your permission and open that without scanning when you are far away from your computer? You feel it’s dangerous to give your Computer in others hand merely because they might insert the storage drive (like pen drive) in your USB ports, then it’s the time to stop worrying about this because here is the solution for this.

You can lock your USB ports for mass storage device by doing some simple editing in your registry editor-

  1. Click Start, and then click Run.
  2. In the Open box, type regedit, and then click OK.
  3. Locate and then click the following registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\UsbStor

  1. In the right pane, double-click Start.
  2. In the Value data box, type 4, click Hexadecimal (if it is not already selected), and then click OK.
  3. Exit Registry Editor.

(Click on the image to view clearly)

Your USB ports are now disabled for the storage devices.. Whenever you insert a flash drive, Windows won't detect it and will not open it.

To enable it again, repeat steps 1 through 4 and then change the value to 3. The default value for enabling a USB flash drive is 3.

Note: Performing this trick will only Disable USB Mass Storage devices and will not affect other USB Devices such as USB Keyboard, USB Mouse, Scanner, Printer etc....always backup your registry to prevent losing your valuable data.

For lazy ones like me I have a simple software for you-

Download USB Disabler.
